Mercer Family
Mercer Family
The Mercer Family came to the Horse Heaven Hills over 125 years ago and has been farming for four generations. They planted their first grape vines in 1972, making them one of the first families to plant and grow vinifera in the state, the family also has deep roots in livestock and vegetable row crops. The diversified operations all occur on their 10,000 acre farm located along the Columbia River. The family is known throughout Eastern Washington for their work ethic, their patriotism and their contributions to the community.
Rob and Brenda Mercer
As president of Mercer Canyons, Inc., Rob Mercer’s responsibilities and efforts are naturally synergistic with the mission of Mercer Estates. Rob’s MBA training and his leadership experience as a Captain in the USMC help guide both organizations. His focus is on ensuring that the best sustainable agricultural practices are being utilized on their farm; to include the current and future vineyard sites that are being identified and developed throughout his family’s land holdings. Brenda assists in marketing efforts and tasting room operations while keeping her primary focus on raising their three children. Rob and Brenda attribute their zeal for grape and wine production to their shared belief that the Horse Heaven Hill’s terroir creates a uniquely identifiable wine style that bridges the gap between Old World Bordeaux’s and the New World Style associated with Napa. A wine with a great expression of minerality balanced with a supple fruit component.
