Mercer Estates – At Home in Three Premier AVAs

The Washington State wine industry has experienced phenomenal growth, nearly doubling in size during the past five years. Ranked second nationally in wine production, Washington sustains nine distinct wine growing regions, or American Viticulture Areas (AVAs), and boasts one of the most ideal climates anywhere for making wine.

The foundation of Mercer Estates’ wines lies in three AVAs: Columbia ValleyYakima Valley and Horse Heaven Hills. Washington State’s northerly latitude allows for an average of 17.4 hours of sunlight during the growing season, extra daylight which allows grapes to ripen to perfection. Southeastern Washington’s low rainfall and long warm days produce grapes with ripe fruit flavors while cool evenings and nights preserve the natural acidity and bright fruit flavors for balanced wines.
