As warmer temperatures settle into Eastern Washington, we’ll be looking for a way to stay cool this summer. It’s no secret the Horse Heaven Hills A.V.A is one of the warmest growing regions in the state, which is good news for our vineyards, but not as comforting to our vineyard crew, who spends most of their days outside, walking up and down vineyard rows monitoring the growth and development of our 2018 vintage.
That being said, after a full day of sunshine there’s only one thing on our minds: Frosé!! In other words, frozen Rosé. Who’s in?!
Of course, you are. How could anyone turn away a super easy (only FOUR ingredients) & delicious spin on a favorite summer-time wine?!
Our 2017 Mercer Estates Rosé begins with aromas of fresh strawberries, pomegranate and cranberry. The fruit is lifted with hints of mint and white tea. The wine is sleek with bright, lively acidity. The fruit for this wine came from Grenache from our estate Spice Cabinet Vineyard located in the Horse Heaven Hills. This vineyard sits on a southeast slope above the Columbia River. Grab a bottle of yourself here.
To compliment the strawberry aromas in this wine, we’ve added fresh, pureed strawberry and pressed lemon juice to balance the added fruit flavor. After blending the pureed strawberry, lemon and Rosé, the mix can be transferred to your freezer. Let sit for 6 hours (or overnight) and then, wa-lah, Frosé! Simply scoop out the mixture into a glass and enjoy. We poured a bit of sparking water over top for some extra fizz – it was delightful!
1 750ml bottle Mercer Estates Rosé
2 cartons (4 lbs) fresh strawberries
2 lemons, juiced
1 can sparking water (optional)
- Purée strawberries, lemon juice, and entire bottle of Rosé in blender until smooth.
- Pour mixture to 9×13 baking dish, and place inside freezer overnight, or at least 6 hours.
- After the rosé mixture has frozen (it will not freeze completely, due to the alcohol), take out of freezer, scoop Strawberry Lemon Frosé into glasses for you and your guests. Enjoy! Optional: add a splash of sparkling water over top for a few bubbles.
